Shade is the first complaint on an open patio, and freestanding umbrella bases are the second: they take a guest's legroom and trip servers. The Shade Island puts the umbrella in the furniture. The shared spine of this back-to-back booth carries an antique-bronze-finish flange of 160 mm (6.3 in) diameter with a 48 mm (1.9 in) bore and a hand-tightened locking knob. Ballast is built into the base chassis, so there is no plate on the deck.
Both faces seat diners, which makes the island the most space-efficient way to fill the middle of a patio. Welts run continuously around both seats, and the base stands 2 in (50 mm) clear for drainage.
Umbrella size and wind exposure decide how much ballast is enough. Tell us the umbrella model, canopy diameter and site exposure and we will size the ballast accordingly, and confirm the pole diameter fits the bore. Umbrellas should still be closed in strong wind, whatever they are mounted in.
